Зоопарк, как всем известно,— это место, где содержатся и демонстрируются посетителям живущие сегодня на земле животные.
Почему диких животных содержат в зоопарках? Самая важная причина в том, что все интересуются животными. Другая причина — это то, что ученые имеют возможность узнать много важного, изучая жизнь животных. Наблюдая за тем, как ведут себя животные, что они едят, как растут, многое можно узнать не только о них, но также и о людях.
Он был основан в 1150 году до н.э. китайским императором, и в нем было много видов оленей, птиц и рыб. Хотя он чем-то походил на современные зоопарки, было одно существенное отличие: вероятно, он не был открыт для публики, а содержался для развлечения императора и его двора.
Поскольку скомплектовать зоопарк и поддерживать его стоит больших денег, в древние времена их заводили только короли и богачи. Многие из них владели коллекциями редких птиц, рыб и животных всех видов.
Первый в мире настоящий общественный зоопарк был открыт в Париже в 1793 г. Это был известный «Жардин де Планте». В нем были животные, музей и ботанический сад.
Следующий большой зоопарк был открыт в 1829 году, в Риджентс-Парке в Лондоне. Затем появился Берлинский зоопарк, который был открыт в 1844 году и стал одним из самых замечательных в мире.
В Соединенных Штатах первый зоопарк был открыт в Филадельфии в 1874 году, а в следующем,1875 году, появился зоопарк в Цинциннати.
